Job summary

Tarbotton Land & Civil in Ashburton is seeking an experienced Civil Estimator to join our senior team. You will price and secure new work, assess plans and documentation, and contribute to project profitability across Canterbury's civil and land development portfolio.

Working with directors and management, you will build strong client relationships, identify opportunities, and support tender submissions and project handovers to ensure successful delivery.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in civil estimating within the New Zealand civil construction or land development sector.
• Strong understanding of civil construction pricing and project delivery.
• Experience interpreting plans, specifications, and contract documentation.
• Knowledge of NZS3910 and NZ3915 contracts (advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate estimates, tenders, and quotations from first principles.
• Review plans, specifications, and contract documentation.
• Manage tender submissions and support project handovers.
• Build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.
• Identify and secure new business opportunities.
• Support project profitability through cost analysis and forecasting.
• Contribute to planning, resource allocation, and project performance reviews.

This is a key position within the business, responsible for pricing and securing new work, developing strong client relationships, and helping drive the successful delivery of projects across Canterbury.

About the role

Working closely with the Directors and wider management team, you'll be responsible for:

• Preparing accurate estimate, tenders, and quotations from first principles
• Reviewing plans, specifications, and contract documentation
• Managing tender submissions and supporting project handovers
• Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships
• Identifying and securing new business opportunities
• Supporting project profitability through cost analysis and forecasting
• Contributing to planning, resource allocation, and project performance reviews.

What we're looking for

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

• Proven experience in civil estimating within the New Zealand civil construction or land development sector
• Strong understanding of civil construction methodologies, pricing, and project delivery
• Experience interpreting plans, specifications, and contract documentation
• Knowledge of NZS3910 and NZ3915 contracts (advantageous)
• Excellent commercial awareness and financial acumen
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work autonomously
