Job summary

ASTRO HOLDING LIMITED in Auckland seeks a Civil Engineering Technician to support our construction, renovation and property development projects. You will provide technical and site-based support across planning, coordination, drawings, site measurements, quality inspections and documentation, working with project managers and contractors to ensure activities meet drawings and standards.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field or have at least three years

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in construction, civil works, property development or site-based project work.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review and update site sketches, layouts, construction plans and technical project documentation.
  • Carry out site inspections, measurements and condition assessments for residential development, renovation, maintenance and civil works.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications and site instructions to support day-to-day project coordination and construction activities.
  • Collect and record site information, measurements and project data to assist with construction planning, scheduling and progress reporting.
  • Assist with estimating material quantities and preparing technical information for procurement and construction activities.
  • Check completed works against drawings, project specifications, quality requirements and relevant construction standards.
  • Assist with monitoring construction quality and identifying defects, technical issues or compliance-related matters requiring corrective action.
  • Assist with site testing and inspections relating to foundations, concrete works, drainage, retaining structures, paving and other civil or external works.
  • Maintain accurate project records, inspection records, site photographs, technical documents and construction progress information.
  • Assist project managers and site supervisors with construction programming, coordination and project documentation.
  • Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders regarding technical and site-related matters.
  • Assist with project handover, defect identification and completion documentation where required.

ASTRO HOLDING LIMITED is an Auckland-based property and construction company established in 2023. We operate across residential development, renovation, commercial property maintenance, civil and site works, and property investment.

We work with a core project and management team together with specialist contractors and site-based personnel to deliver projects across Auckland. This structure allows our team members to gain practical exposure to different stages of construction, property improvement and project delivery.

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated Civil Engineering Technician to support our construction, renovation and property development projects.

The successful candidate will provide technical and site-based support across project planning, construction coordination, drawings, site measurements, quality inspections, project documentation and progress monitoring.

You will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders to help ensure construction activities are carried out accurately, efficiently and in accordance with project drawings, specifications and relevant requirements.

Requirements
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management or a related field;

OR

  • At least three years of relevant experience in construction, civil works, property development, renovation or site-based project work.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Good understanding of civil engineering principles, construction processes and site coordination.
  • Practical understanding of site measurements, construction materials and quality inspection processes.
  • Good computer skills and ability to use relevant engineering, drafting, documentation or project management software.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with project managers, site teams, contractors and suppliers.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate project and site records.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • A practical, responsible and problem-solving approach to work.
