Job summary

Wintec is seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician (Chemistry) to join our Applied Science team at Hamilton city campus, with an immediate start available.

You will prepare laboratories, equipment, reagents and other materials for practical classes, support daily lab operations, maintain and calibrate equipment, manage stock and assist teaching staff in practical activities while upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in science or laboratory qualification.
• Experience in a chemistry laboratory.
• Hazardous Substances training and Certified Handler Certificate would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of laboratory health and safety requirements.
• Strong organisational and planning skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratories, equipment, reagents and other materials for practical classes and teaching activities.
• Support the day-to-day operation of science laboratories, ensuring equipment and resources are available and functioning.
• Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, arranging repairs when necessary.
• Manage laboratory supplies, consumables and equipment inventories, including stocktaking and ordering.
• Support academic staff in the development and delivery of laboratory-based learning activities.
• Maintain a safe laboratory environment by identifying and managing hazards, following appropriate procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous substances, and supporting laboratory health and safety requirements.
• Work collaboratively with academic staff, laboratory technicians and other colleagues to ensure the smooth delivery of practical classes.
