Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki invites applications for a Medical Laboratory Technician to join its Laboratory team in New Plymouth. The role covers diagnostic testing across biochemistry, blood bank, haematology, and microbiology, with responsibilities in Point of Care Testing, Molecular Biology, and Specimen Services.

The lab operates Monday–Friday 8:00am–5:00pm with weekend and on-call shifts to provide 24/7 service and ensure high-quality patient care across the region.

Qualifications

• Proven ability in medical laboratory techniques and related scientific skills.
• Experience with phlebotomy is preferred.
• Strong teamwork and collaborative working style.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality diagnostic testing across biochemistry, blood bank, haematology and microbiology.
• Contribute to Point of Care Testing, Molecular Biology and Specimen Services.
• Support 24/7 service delivery with rostered weekend and out-of-hours coverage.
