Job summary

The Ottoman in Rangiora is hiring a chef to run the busy kitchen. This is a full-time permanent role with a guaranteed minimum of 30 hours per week and a pay rate of $27-$30 per hour, depending on experience.

You will oversee kitchen operations, prepare dishes, manage costs, ensure hygiene, and train staff, in collaboration with the restaurant manager and front-of-house team. NZ resident visa or citizenship is required; willingness to work holidays, evenings, and weekends is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of kitchen experience.
• Experience in Turkish/Mediterranean cuisine preferred.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Able to work holidays, evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assume overall responsibility for kitchen operations, ensuring efficiency.
• Prepare and cook menu dishes using safe techniques; prepare marinades for meat.
• Propose seasonal dishes aligned with Turkish cuisine.
• Estimate food and labour costs, and manage food supplies.
• Maintain quality standards throughout food preparation and presentation.
• Collaborate with the restaurant manager, kitchen and waiting staff on food matters.
• Enforce hygiene regulations.
• Recruit and train kitchen staff.

The Ottoman prides itself to be the tastiest Turkish restaurant in Rangiora with a relaxed ambience and a great culinary experience in Mediterranean and Turkish cuisine. Our restaurant is open 7 days a week from 10.30 am to 9 pm. We have a capacity of around 60 seating patrons, takeaways and deliveries on top of that.

We are looking to employ a chef to run our busy kitchen.

Your Responsibilities will be:

• Assume overall responsibility for kitchen operations, ensuring efficiency
• Prepare and cook menu dishes using safe techniques, prepare marinades for meat dishes
• Propose seasonal dishes aligned with Turkish cuisine
• Estimate food and labour costs, and manage food supplies
• Maintain quality standards throughout food preparation and presentation
• Collaborate with the restaurant manager, kitchen, and waiting staff on food-related matters
• Enforce hygiene regulations
• Recruit and train kitchen staff

You would have:

• At least 3 year or more of work experience
• Punctual, organised & capable of multi-tasking with attention to detail.
• Experience with health & safety laws and keeping records for quality control.
• Able to work holidays, evenings and weekends. You will be rostered.
• New Zealand resident visa or citizenship
