Job summary

Playcentre Aotearoa in Otago seeks a Centre Coordinator to work 5 hours per week, with permanent position during term time. The role focuses on building adult capability and leadership within Playcentre whānau, ensuring sessions reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enrich children's learning.

You will collaborate with centre whānau and support staff, model high-quality, whānau-led sessions, and advise on curriculum, adult education and health and safety while meeting regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
  • Hold and maintain First Aid certification

Responsibilities

  • Develop whānau to be the first educators for their tamariki with rich, child-led curriculum experiences
  • Role-model and support the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions
  • Provide guidance on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery
  • Ensure sessions meet Health and Safety obligations and regulatory requirements
  • Recognise Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and promote Māori cultural values in Playcentre

Job description

5 hours per week | Part-time | Starting once the position has been appointed to

Permanentposition during term time only

Potential for additional hours as a Kaimahi, to be discussed with the successful applicant.

About the role:

Working in collaboration with centre whānau and other centre support staff, the Centre Coordinator focuses on building adult capability and confidence. This enables adults to progressively take greater leadership in sessions and centre responsibilities, supporting a whānau-led environment.

As the Person Responsible on session, this role provides high quality support and pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau. The Centre Coordinator ensures sessions and programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enriches children’s learning and development.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences

Role-modelling and supporting the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions

Providing advice and support to centre whānau focusing on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery

Ensure sessions meet regulatory and legislative requirements including Health and Safety obligations

Recognise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they relate to Playcentre and actively engage in promotion of Māori cultural values

About you:

You will be confident building and maintaining strong relationships, providing guidance and solutions with a centre-focused approach.

You will also have:

Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whānau

Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+

Confidence using technology to support learning & administration

Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Hold and maintain appropriate First Aid certification

NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
