Job summary

Ara Poutama Aotearoa - Department of Corrections is seeking casual Assistant Residential Supervisors in Canterbury (Templeton/ Christchurch) to supervise residents with high-risk needs. Roles cover planned and short-notice leave with 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays.

You will support residents in reintegration activities, promote safety, and model pro-social behaviour. Applicants should hold a full NZ driver's licence, be physically fit, and capable of making

Qualifications

• Must hold a full New Zealand driver's licence with the ability to drive a manual.
• Be physically fit and capable of enduring 12-hour shifts.
• Experience working with people with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
• Ability to make safe, practical decisions and solve day-to-day issues.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• Respectful, non-judgemental approach to diverse individuals and culture.
• Maintain clear, professional boundaries at all times.
• Excellent communication with residents, colleagues and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Supervise residents during 12-hour shifts, including nights and days.
• Support residents in reintegrative activities and community outings.
• Model pro-social behaviour and promote safety and wellbeing.
• Monitor risks and respond to heightened behaviours promptly and safely.
• Collaborate with team to support residents' goals and reduce re-offending risk.
