Job summary

Auckland City Mission is seeking a Casual Relief Worker to provide on‑duty support across a hostel, helping maintain safe, respectful, client‑centred care. You will learn on the job and be mentored for a longer‑term career with the Mission.

This casual role offers opportunities to participate in cultural activities, join in on daily living supports, and contribute to a team focused on real community impact.

Qualifications

• Experience in homelessness, mental health/addiction and residential care.
• Experience with night shift and routine setting.
• Ability to de-escalate situations and regulate emotions.
• Ability to build rapport and maintain relationships.
• Ability to solve problems and be resourceful.

Responsibilities

• Carry out tasks across a broad spectrum of hostel roles as directed.
• Assist in the kitchen with meal preparation and service.
• Support residents with chores, daily living activities and appointments outside the hostel.
• Join in or facilitate activities.
• Security and monitoring.
