Job summary

Christ’s College in Christchurch, New Zealand, seeks a warm, knowledgeable Careers Advisor to guide students through subject choices, tertiary study and employment opportunities. You will work mainly with Year 11 students, provide practical guidance, help with university applications, CVs and cover letters, and run careers events while building strong links with tertiary providers, employers and alumni.

Qualifications

• Experience in careers education or student guidance preferred.

Working primarily with students in Years 11–11, you will provide practical and personalised guidance on subject choices, tertiary study, scholarships, vocational pathways and employment opportunities. You will also support students with university applications, CVs and cover letters, while helping them navigate the many possibilities available to them.

This is a varied and rewarding role that includes coordinating careers events and programmes, developing helpful resources for students and families, and building strong relationships with tertiary providers, employers, industry representatives and our Old Boy community.

• Empathy, sound judgement and the ability to provide balanced and impartial guidance
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong planning, administration and record-keeping skills
• Confidence presenting information to students, families and staff
• An understanding of New Zealand secondary and tertiary qualifications and entry requirements
• Current knowledge of tertiary study, vocational pathways, scholarships and employment opportunities
• Confidence using digital systems and online careers resources
• Professionalism and discretion when working with confidential information

Previous experience in careers education, careers counselling, student guidance or a related field would be an advantage. A relevant qualification, experience working with secondary-school-aged students, or established tertiary and industry relationships would also be welcomed.
