Job summary

Kristin School is seeking an inspiring Student Futures Advisor to guide Middle and Senior School students through future pathways, including tertiary study and workforce options. The role supports subject choices and builds connections with universities, industry partners, and alumni.

This is a permanent, part-time position (20 hours per week, term time only) requiring a university degree plus NZ teaching registration or a recognised Careers Qualification, with strong communication and mentoring

Qualifications

  • University degree with NZ teaching qualification or NZ-recognised careers qualification.
  • Experience guiding students through tertiary pathways and career planning.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to engage with students, staff, and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Guide Middle and Senior School students on future pathways, including domestic and international study and work options.
  • Deliver 1-on-1 career guidance, CV/cover letter support, and interview preparation.
  • Co-design and deliver careers education lessons and run Careers and Universities Workshops for Senior School.
  • Organise tertiary futures events, university visits, and workshops with parents and industry partners.
  • Mentor staff on futures planning and mentoring best practices.

We are seeking an inspiring and dynamic Student Futures Advisor (Student Careers Advisor) to join our team in a permanent, part-time capacity (20 hours per week, term time only).

In this pivotal role, you will guide Middle and Senior School students through critical decisions about their future pathways—whether navigating domestic or international tertiary study, vocational training, or entering the workforce. Drawing on best-practice career education (including the Hope-Action Theory), you will deliver one-on-one career guidance, support subject choice selection, and build strong connections with industry partners to foster experiential learning.

Responsibilities include
  • Tertiary and Academic Pathways: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of domestic and international (Australia, UK, US) university entry requirements, supporting students and staff with application processes and recommendation letters.
  • Individual Student Support: Conduct 1-on-1 guidance sessions, administer career assessments, assist with CV/cover letter creation, and prepare students for interviews and applications.
  • Curriculum and Workshop Delivery: Co-plan and, where appropriate, teach careers education lessons across Middle and Senior School classes and deliver Careers and Universities Workshops to Senior School students
  • Industry and Community Engagement: Help organize events such as Tertiary Futures Evenings, university visits, parent seminars and opportunities for students to engage with Kristin parents, alumni and corporate partners.
  • Staff Mentoring: Provide training to staff on academic futures planning and mentoring.
  • Qualifications: A relevant University Degree combined with either a New Zealand Teaching Qualification (with NZ registration) or a recognised Careers Qualification (e.g., NZ Diploma in Career Development).
  • Knowledge: Deep and up-to-date understanding of university entrance systems, course requirements, and pathways (both within New Zealand and internationally).
  • Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to inspire, motivate, and build positive, collaborative relationships with students, parents, staff, and external partners.
  • Organisation and Digital Literacy: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with strong self-motivation, time management, and digital literacy.
