Job summary

Summerset Retirement Villages in Whanganui is seeking an inspirational and experienced Care Centre Manager to lead the village care team. You’ll oversee Nursing and Caregiver staff, ensure quality care, and drive a high-performing unit in line with Te Whatu Ora standards.

Reporting to the Village Manager, you’ll manage staffing, budgets, compliance, audits and stakeholder relationships, including residents and families.

Qualifications

• Clinical experience in aged care with knowledge of Te Whatu Ora standards.
• Proven management experience leading nurses and care teams.
• Ability to balance people leadership with operational management in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee staff, budgeting, and compliance for the care centre.
• Lead and coach the nursing and caregiving team to deliver high-quality care.
• Build meaningful relationships with residents, families, and stakeholders.
• Support clinical decision-making and ensure ongoing quality care.
• Manage audits, policy implementation and liaise with NASC, Te Whatu Ora and external agencies.
• Foster a connected village culture and drive continuous improvement.

Job Description

We’re on the lookout for an inspirational and experienced Care Centre Manager to lead our Whanganui village care team. You’ll play a critical role in building a high-performing team of Nurses and Caregivers, and ensure we continue to deliver the exceptional care we’re known for.

This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm, with some occasional on-call responsibilities that include weekends and nights.

What you’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Village Manager, you’ll be responsible for the care centre’s daily operations and strategic leadership, including:

• Full accountability for staffing, budgeting, and compliance
• Leading and coaching your team with a strong focus on recruitment, development, and recognition
• Building meaningful relationships with residents, their families, and stakeholders – and being their trusted point of contact, especially in sensitive situations
• Supporting sound clinical decision-making and ensuring quality care at all times
• Managing audits, policy implementation, and working with NASC, Te Whatu Ora and other key external agencies
• Driving a strong, connected team culture across the village

Qualifications

You’ll bring experience in a clinical environment with a deep understanding of the aged care sector and Te Whatu Ora standards. You’ll be an experienced manager with solid aged care experience in New Zealand, ready for a new challenge, you’ll be passionate about leading people, driving quality outcomes, and making a real difference.

You’re someone who leads with empathy, builds trust, and can bring out the best in others. You’re confident balancing people leadership with operational management, and thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
