Job summary

Balls and Bangles in Queenstown is seeking a Cafe Manager to lead a busy front-of-house team, maintain fast, fresh service, and drive daily operations.

You will manage rosters, cash reconciliation, stock, and ensure alcohol service compliance under NZ law. A strong hospitality background and LCQ are essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold a General Manager’s Certificate (LCQ) to manage alcohol licence.
• 2+ years in fast-casual hospitality or cafe management.
• Available to work a rotating roster including weekends and early mornings.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, train, and manage rosters for front-of-house team.
• Oversee daily opening/closing procedures, cash reconciliation, and stock management.
• Act as the responsible manager on duty, ensuring compliance with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act.
• Ensure food presentation, shakes, and coffee meet high quality and speed standards.
• Maintain our Food Control Plan (FCP) and health and safety schedules.
• Collaborate with kitchen team on product/Menu design.

The Role

We are on the lookout for a dynamic, hands-on Cafe Manager to lead our buzzing Queenstown team. This is a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. You will be responsible for maintaining our high standards of speed and service, keeping energy levels high, managing stock, and making sure our guests leave with a massive smile. Because we also serve a great range of craft beers and wine, you will take on the critical responsibility of managing our alcohol service compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and manage rosters for a fast-moving front-of-house team.
• Daily Operations: Oversee daily opening/closing procedures, cash reconciliation, and stock management.
• Duty Management: Act as the responsible manager on duty, ensuring strict compliance with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act.
• Quality & Speed Control: Ensure food presentation, shakes, and coffee meet our high quality and speed standards.
• Compliance: Maintain our strict Food Control Plan (FCP) and health and safety schedules.
• Product/Menu Design: Collaborating with the kitchen team, you will be creating new menu items.

What We Are Looking For

• Manager's Certificate: Must hold a current General Manager’s Certificate (LCQ) to manage our alcohol licence and have at least 1 years experience in a duty manager position.
• Experience: 2+ years in a fast-casual hospitality or cafe management role.
• Vibe: A fun, high-energy personality who thrives under pressure and enjoys a bustling, fast-paced environment.
• Skills: Strong communication and leadership skills, barista/hospitality experience to jump in and support the team wherever needed. There are times when our front of house staff assist the chef, so having experience cooking on a grill is also beneficial.
• Flexibility: Available to work a rotating roster, including weekends and early mornings.
• Visa: Valid, long-term working rights for New Zealand.
