Job summary

Columbus Coffee in the Mitre 10 MEGA Hornby store, Christchurch, is seeking a Café Head Chef to lead a busy kitchen and deliver consistent, tasty cabinet and brunch items.

The ideal candidate will mentor a small team, work daytime shifts with a 7-day roster, and follow tried-and-tested recipes while also crafting new dishes.

Applicants with a Certificate in Hospitality (Cooking) or equivalent experience are preferred; benefits include a training focus, staff discounts, and free parking.

Qualifications

• Be a team player with excellent communication skills.
• Solution focused with ability to manage stressful situations effectively.
• Confident with stock control systems, costing food products and food compliance procedures.
• Ideally at least 12 months experience as Head chef in a busy cafe kitchen with experience in short order brunch meals and baking.
• Able to work on a 7-day roster including weekdays, weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the successful running of the kitchen in a busy cafe environment.
• Lead a talented team of 2 other chefs.
• Work unsupervised after induction and training.
