Job summary

Columbus Coffee New Lynn is seeking an experienced Café Chef to lead hands-on kitchen work, delivering the established menu with consistency while crafting fresh cabinet items and specials that attract customers. This role requires confidence with recipes and brand standards, strong food safety records, and the ability to flourish in a busy cafe.

You’ll manage stock, submit orders, monitor costs, and collaborate with the Café Manager to grow sales.

Qualifications

• Creativity, flair and a genuine passion for great café food.
• Confidence following established recipes and brand standards.
• Experience managing a Food Control Plan and maintaining accurate food safety records.
• Strong kitchen organisation and food safety knowledge.
• Good commercial awareness, including food costs and waste control.
• A calm, positive and team-focused approach.
• Reliable transport and availability to work weekends.
• A cookery qualification or strong practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the Columbus menu and seasonal releases to a consistently high standard.
• Create fresh, tempting cabinet items, specials and made-order dishes.
• Maintain excellent food quality, presentation and portion control.
• Coordinate preparation and service during busy periods.
• Support other kitchen team members.
• Manage stock, ordering, food costs and waste.
• Manage and maintain the café’s Food Control Plan, ensuring all required records, checks and food safety procedures are completed.
• Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness and health and safety.
• Work with the Café Manager to improve the food offer and grow sales.
