Job summary

Fluid Recruitment is partnering with a specialist consultancy to recruit a CAD Designer Manager in Auckland/Christchurch. The role leads a mid-size team of CAD Designers, overseeing 2D and 3D drafting across diverse power systems projects.

You will mentor staff, coordinate workloads, and provide technical oversight on AutoCAD, Revit and BIM while collaborating with Engineers to deliver high-quality drawings. A strong leadership mindset and power/energy sector familiarity are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years' experience as a designer, draftsperson, or modeller.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and support others.
• Strong technical expertise across 2D & 3D drafting software, including AutoCAD, Revit and BIM.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations, workloads and technical priorities across the team.
• Undertake CAD drafting across the client’s portfolio of projects.
• Provide technical support across 2D & 3D drafting, AutoCAD, Revit and BIM
• Mentor team members and support their career and professional development

Fluid Recruitment is proud to partner with a specialist consultancy in search of a CAD Designer Manager.

The Company

Our client has built a strong reputation for delivering specialist engineering solutions across the energy sector, supporting projects from generation and renewables through to transmission and distribution. Their expertise spans Power Systems, Civil & Structural Engineering, Project Management, and Advisory services.

The Role

As the CAD Designer Manager, you will lead a mid-size team of CAD Designers located primarily in Auckland and Christchurch. You'll remain involved across projects, utilising your technical expertise in 2D & 3D drafting whilst mentoring, supporting and developing the team around you.

The responsibilities of the role will include:

• Managing day-to-day operations, workloads and technical priorities across the team
• Undertaking CAD drafting across our client's portfolio of projects
• Providing technical support across 2D & 3D drafting, AutoCAD, Revit and BIM
• Mentoring team members and supporting their career and professional development
• Collaborating with Engineers and wider project teams to deliver high-quality technical drawings for the power systems engineering team

About You

To demonstrate success in the role, you will have the following:

• A minimum of 5 years' experience as a designer, draftsperson, or modeller.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and support others
• Strong technical expertise across relevant 2D & 3D drafting software, including AutoCAD, Revit and/or BIM

I Importantly, a background within power or the energy sector is desirable but not essential. Technical expertise within the relevant drawing software and a sound understanding of electrical drawings will be key to your success in the role.
