Job summary

Sanderson Group, a premium property developer, invites an experienced cabinet maker/joiner to join our Mount Maunganui workshop. You will manufacture high-end joinery for our developments and lead quality control, snags, and the assembly team at our warehouse.

This full‑time role offers real leadership development as the operation grows, with support from an experienced Workshop Manager and a clear pathway into a formal leadership role.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience as a cabinet maker or joiner.
• High standard of workmanship and attention to detail.
• Capable of leading, organising work and exercising sound judgment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety.
• Valid, clean driver licence and willingness to move between sites.

Responsibilities

About the role

If you've spent years building your craft and are ready for that experience to count for more than what comes off your own bench, this could be your next step.

You’ll remain hands‑on, manufacturing high-end joinery for our developments, while taking ownership of key areas across our operation. You’ll lead quality control, coordinate our snags and remedials process, and oversee the assembly team at our warehouse.

This is a genuine opportunity to develop the leadership side of your trade: real accountability, defined areas to lead, and the support of an experienced Workshop Manager. As our operation grows, there is a clear pathway into a formal leadership role.

This full‑time position is based across our Mount Maunganui workshop and warehouse sites and reports to the Workshop Manager.

Key responsibilities

On the tools

• Manufacture high-quality products across a range of joinery projects, including kitchens, wardrobes, bathrooms, entertainment units and bespoke joinery

• Construct and assemble cabinetry in accordance with drawings, specifications and quality requirements

• Work alongside the wider team to maintain production flow and meet project deadlines

Quality control

• Lead quality control across our joinery, ensuring completed work meets drawings, specifications and finish standards before leaving the workshop

• Manage the snags and remedials process from identification through to completion, ensuring issues are prioritised, resolved and formally closed out

• Record recurring faults and work with the Workshop Manager to identify and eliminate their underlying causes

• Help build a culture in which quality is understood and owned by the entire team

Leading the assembly team

• Provide day‑to‑day direction to the warehouse assembly team, including allocating work, monitoring progress and maintaining quality expectations

• Set the pace and keep assembly running to programme

• Share your experience and support the development of our team

General

• Work closely with the Workshop Manager and wider team to meet deadlines and maintain consistently high standards

• Provide leadership and make sound operational decisions in the Workshop Manager’s absence

• Identify and help implement improvements to workflow, productivity and quality

• Maintain a safe, organised and professional working environment

About you

• Extensive hands‑on experience as a cabinet maker or joiner, with a relevant trade qualification or equivalent industry experience

• A genuinely high standard of workmanship and strong attention to detail

• Comfortable taking the lead — you can organise work, keep others moving, and exercise sound judgement when you're the most experienced person on the floor

• The confidence to hold others to agreed standards fairly and constructively

• Well organised, with the ability to manage a process, track open items and see them through to completion

• Willing to share your knowledge and support the development of others

• Clear and effective communication and interpersonal skills

• A strong commitment to maintaining workplace health and safety

• A current, clean driver licence, as you'll be moving between our workshop and warehouse sites
