Blue Pacific Minerals Limited – Christchurch, South Island

Business Development Manager – Plant, Soil & Turf

Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand | Full-time, permanent | Regular travel required

About Blue Pacific Minerals

Blue Pacific Minerals (BPM) is a Tokoroa-based specialty minerals and plant nutrition company. Our story starts underground at Ngakuru, in the Taupō Volcanic Zone, we mine one of the world’s few commercial deposits of mordenite zeolite, a rare, highly porous mineral that holds water and nutrients, exchanges ions with the soil and releases them to the plant over time.

From our 10,500 m² Tokoroa site we process that mineral into graded zeolites, nutrient-loaded zeolites and animal health products exporting to the world. In the last two years we have added New Zealand’s only facility manufacturing UAN liquid fertilisers from raw ingredients, a new blending and bagging line for high‑value loaded products, and an in‑house laboratory and innovation centre that opens later this year. It adds up to a business that is growing strongly, investing ahead of demand, and building a product platform that combines mineral, liquid nutrition and biology in a way no other New Zealand supplier can.

Our Plant, Soil & Turf category supplies liquid fertilisers and foliar nutrition, trace elements, zeolite soil amendments and biological and biostimulant products to pasture and cropping farmers, backed by some international brands. Our aim is simple: help farmers grow more dry matter and more crop per dollar of input, with less nitrogen lost to the environment.

The role

We are establishing a South Island presence for the Plant, Soil & Turf category and this role is it. Reporting to the General Manager – Sales, you will build the territory from the ground up: growing sales of our liquid nutrition, soil amendment and biological programmes into pasture and crop farming, developing rural retail and independent reseller relationships, and working alongside farmers and their advisers to put our programmes to work on‑farm.

You will be home-based in the South Island and on the road a good deal of the time – on farms, with resellers and at field days across the island, with periodic travel to Tokoroa and to industry events.

What you will do
  • Develop and deliver an annual Canterbury, West Coast and Nelson sales plan and budget for the Plant, Soil & Turf category, and own the result.
  • Prospect, win and grow direct farm accounts and reseller partners across dairy, sheep and beef, arable and forage cropping.
  • Work with farmers, agronomists and consultants to design nutrition programmes around our liquid, zeolite and biological products, and to set up and follow through on‑farm trials.
  • Manage pricing, quotes and forecasts within agreed guidelines, keeping the CRM current and the pipeline visible.
  • Feed market, competitor and product intelligence back to the commercial, product and technical teams to shape what we build next.
  • Represent BPM at field days, industry events and customer functions, and help build the brand in the South Island.
What you bring
  • Formal qualification in agriculture, agricultural science or a related discipline; an agronomy background is strongly preferred.
  • A proven commercial sales record in agricultural inputs – fertiliser, nutrition, biologicals, agrichemicals or similar – with results you can point to.
  • Territory ownership. You are a self‑starter who plans your own time, works autonomously from a home base and delivers without being managed day to day.
  • Budget discipline. You have worked to sales and expense budgets, forecast accurately and been accountable for the numbers.
  • Excellent customer rapport. Farmers and resellers trust you because you understand their business, speak plainly and follow through.
  • Practical agronomic knowledge of pasture and crop nutrition, soil fertility and the seasonal rhythms of South Island farming.
  • A full, clean driver’s licence and the ability to travel regularly, including overnight stays.
What we offer
  • A ground‑floor role in a growing business, with a real say in how your territory is built.
  • A product platform that is unique in New Zealand, backed by international brands, in‑house manufacturing and a lab and innovation centre to draw on.
  • Direct access to the leadership team and short lines to the people making product decisions.
  • A competitive package commensurate with experience, and the tools to do the job on the road.

Applications close Monday 21st of September.
