Job summary

Macmahon New Zealand is seeking experienced Boilermaker Welders to join our team at the Snowy River Gold Mine Project near Reefton, New Zealand. In this hands‑on role, you will fabricate, repair and maintain a modern underground mining fleet, working alongside a skilled team to keep equipment reliable while developing your trade skills in a dynamic underground environment.

You will perform welding, gouging, cutting and component repairs, interpret drawings, and manage maintenance records.

Qualifications

• Australian or NZ recognised trade qualification (Cert III or equivalent).
• Proven underground mining equipment maintenance experience, Sandvik fleets preferred.
• Onsite repair experience including bucket and structural rebuilds.
• Competency in MIG, TIG and Stick welding with relevant certifications.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and work plans.
• Strong focus on safety, quality and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair and rebuild metal components and structures.
• Complete welding, gouging, cutting and related tasks to a high standard.
• Conduct weekly bucket and blade condition inspections and reporting.
• Interpret drawings and work plans to perform repairs and modifications.
• Source materials for fabrication and repair activities.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.
• Assist with general workshop and site duties as required.

• Location: Snowy River Gold Mine Project – Reefton, New Zealand’s South Island
• Roster: 7:7 (Local) – rotating day and night shifts

About the Role

In this hands‑on role, you'll carry out fabrication, maintenance and repair work on a modern underground mining fleet, including newly commissioned equipment. Working alongside a skilled and supportive maintenance team, you'll play a key role in maintaining equipment reliability while further developing your trade skills in a dynamic underground mining environment.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, repair and rebuild a range of metal components and structures.
• Complete welding, gouging, cutting and related fabrication tasks to a high standard.
• Conduct weekly bucket and blade condition inspections and reporting.
• Interpret engineering drawings and work plans to complete repairs and modifications.
• Source materials required for fabrication and repair activities.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.
• Assist with general workshop and site duties as required.

What You’ll Bring

• Australian or New Zealand recognised Trade Qualification (Cert III or equivalent)
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing underground mining equipment, preferably Sandvik fleets.
• Experience performing onsite repairs, including bucket, tray body and structural rebuilds.
• Competency in MIG, TIG and Stick welding, air arc gouging, cutting and lancing, supported by relevant welding certifications.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and work plans.
• Strong focus on safety, quality workmanship and teamwork.
• Experience using maintenance management and reporting systems.
• Valid unrestricted manual New Zealand Class 1 or Australian C Class Driver's Licence (essential).
