Job summary

Marine Detailing Company in Auckland is seeking a skilled Boat Repairer to join our growing team. This full-time, permanent role carries responsibility for boat repairs, restoration and maintenance on recreational and commercial vessels, ensuring workmanship meets marine industry standards.

The ideal candidate will have either a relevant trade qualification in Boat Building or Marine Repair, or at least three years’ full-time experience.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have either a relevant trade qualification in Boat Building, Marine Repair, Composite Fabrication or another closely related trade.
  • Or at least three (3) years' full-time relevant experience as a Boat Builder or in a closely related occupation.
  • Full NZ Driver’s Licence or overseas equivalent; immigration status must be disclosed for the application to be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect vessels to assess damage, identify repair requirements and determine appropriate repair methods.
  • Carry out fibreglass laminating, composite repairs and gelcoat restoration using appropriate marine materials and repair techniques.
  • Repair, restore or replace damaged hull, deck and interior components using appropriate marine repair techniques and materials.
  • Measure, cut, shape and fit replacement materials and components to complete repairs.
  • Undertake hull, deck and surface preparation including grinding, sanding and fairing.
  • Complete gelcoat repairs, finishing, polishing and surface refinishing to restore vessel appearance and functionality.
  • Install, remove or refit marine hardware, fittings and internal components following repair work.

Key Skills

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Experience in boat repairing, restoration or vessel maintenance.
  • Knowledge of fibreglass, composite construction and marine fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to safely operate workshop machinery, power tools and hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Physical capability to perform manual trade work, including lifting, grinding and laminating.

Other requirements:

  • Full NZ Driver’s Licence or overseas equivalent
  • You must include your immigration status for you application to be considered
