Job summary

Vickers Aircraft Company in Hamilton, North Island, is expanding and seeking Production Technicians / Boatbuilders to join a dynamic team. You will build structural and precision components from engineering drawings and process specs in a controlled environment.

Duties include drilling, bonding, surface prep, prepreg and layup techniques, vacuum bagging, tooling fabrication, and assembly of composite structures, while adhering to QA, safety and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assemble structural and precision components from drawings and instructions.
• Perform drilling, bonding, measurement, and shimming to close tolerances.
• Surface prep using grit blast and abrasion techniques.
• Fabrication using prepreg, infusion, wet layup; vacuum bag processing; bonding and curing.
• Fabricate tooling from aluminium, composites, wood.
• Operate small shop power tools.
• Assemble composite structures including bonding and fastener applications.
• Adhere to QA and safety/environmental regulations.

What you'll be doing

Work from engineering drawings, written work instructions and process specifications to assemble structural and precision components in a controlled environment.

Perform drilling, adhesive bonding, measurement and shimming interfaces to close tolerances.

Surface prep, using grit blast, hand abrade and power abrasion techniques.

Prepreg, Infusion and Wet Layup fabrication techniques, including vacuum bag processing, bonding, and oven/autoclave curing.

Tooling fabrication from various materials such as aluminium, composites, and wood.

Working with small shop power tools (saws, routers, sanders, and grinders).

Assembly of composite structures including setup, bonding, and fastener applications.

Adhering to Quality Assurance as set out in the manual exposition.

Adhere to all health, safety and environmental regulations to ensure a safe work environment.

What we're looking for

Basic - Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with the proper usage of mechanics hand tools and power tools.

Basic - Strong understanding of composites fabrication.

Demonstrated ability to work to changing priorities.

Decisive and self-starting attitude with energy and motivation to be effective in a very demanding environment.

Ability to multi task & solve problems using own initiative.
