Job summary

Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury is seeking an organised Administrator for the Birthing Suite. The role supports booking, admissions and patient administration across Birthing Suite and MAU, with shift patterns including weekends and public holidays.

You will handle patient arrivals, coordinate admissions and provide high-quality service in a busy hospital environment, using SI PICs and Health Connect South to ensure accurate records and timely care.

Qualifications

• You will be an organised, people-focused administrator with excellent customer service.
• Ability to remain accurate under pressure in a busy hospital environment.
• Strong communication and keyboard skills with high attention to detail.
• Proficiency in MS Office and ability to learn new systems quickly.

Responsibilities

• Manage arrival and departure of patients for acute and planned appointments.
• Coordinate elective outpatient and inpatient admissions for timely access to treatment.
• Provide excellent customer service to patients, whānau and clinical teams.
• Utilise SI PICs and Health Connect South to coordinate admissions, transfers and bookings.
• Manage daily/weekly workloads and competing priorities.
• Create NZ NHI numbers for babies and new patients.
• Enter birth summaries for births at Christchurch Women's Hospital.
• Maintain accurate patient information and documentation.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to improve outcomes.
