Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora LabPLUS Auckland City Hospital invites applications for a Bioinformatician / Molecular Scientist in the Molecular Infectious Diseases Department. This role blends cutting-edge bioinformatics with hands-on molecular diagnostic testing, assay verification, and implementation of new technologies.

You will develop and validate NGS pipelines, interpret genomic data, and support accreditation within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Registration as Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand.
Master's degree or PhD in Bioinformatics or related field.
Experience in analysis of NGS data.
Proficiency in Linux and scripting (Python, R, Bash).

Responsibilities

Develop, optimise, validate and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for genomic and molecular diagnostic applications.
Analyse, interpret, and report next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
Support Molecular Infectious Diseases testing services through data analysis and laboratory-based activities.
Interpret and communicate complex genomic findings to laboratory and clinical stakeholders.
Monitor emerging bioinformatics tools, databases, and technologies for infectious disease diagnostics.
Ensure bioinformatics pipelines and documentation meet quality assurance and regulatory requirements.
Participate in hands-on routine and specialised molecular diagnostic testing.
Assist in verification, validation, and implementation of new assays.
Prepare verification and validation reports to support accreditation.
