Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora's LabPLUS in Auckland invites a Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Diagnostic Genetics team. You will provide essential technical foundation enabling scientists and pathologists to deliver high-quality genetic testing, with responsibilities spanning specimen processing, nucleic acid extraction, and QC.

Qualifications

• Registered Medical Laboratory Technician with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ (or eligible) and current APC.
• Experience in a medical laboratory environment.
• Experience with molecular techniques, nucleic acid extraction, or diagnostic workflows is advantageous.
• Strong commitment to accuracy, quality and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow documented procedures and maintain high technical standards.
• Knowledge of ISO 15189 principles and quality systems.

Responsibilities

• Process specimens and perform nucleic acid extraction as required.
• Support molecular and cytogenetic testing workflows in the laboratory.
• Operate specialized technologies to enable diverse genetic testing services.
• Contribute to data handling and quality management activities.
• Collaborate with Medical Laboratory Scientists, Clinical Scientists and Pathologists.
