You will work primarily with small groups of ākonga (years 7–13), be fluent in English and Tigrinya, and liaise with families. Police vetting is required; eligibility to work in New Zealand is essential.

We have a roll of around 1400 and with further building works underway, the roll is expected to increase in the next few years. We are looking for a Bilingual Learning / Liaison Assistant to join our English Language Learning Department for an immediate start. The role is focused on supporting the progress, engagement and achievement of ākonga and the liaison with their caregivers.
Please note this position is for a fixed term 7 week period and not permanent, commencing on 12 October 2026 and ending on 27th November 2026.
This is a part-time, term-time only position, working approximately 20 hours per week by negotiation, may be negotiated (days and hours are by negotiation and will be reviewed termly based on need). Remuneration is based on the Support Staff (Teacher Aide) in Schools Collective Agreement.
Working primarily with small groups of students from year 7 to year 13, the ideal candidate will:
Be fluent in English and Trigrinya
Demonstrate a passion for education and supporting English language learners
Be willing to liaise with the families of students
Be able to work collaboratively with teachers and staff to support student learning
Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
Applicants will be required to undergo police vetting and cannot be appointed until a successful result has been received. Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand and reside here.
