Job summary

Moore Markhams Auckland is seeking a BAS Leader to guide a high-performing Business Advisory Services team from the Newmarket office. You’ll collaborate with a Partner to deliver advisory and compliance services while mentoring staff and growing client relationships.

You’ll drive team performance, deliver strategic business advice, review financial statements and oversee tax planning including NZ Income Tax, GST and FBT, ensuring high-quality outputs for a diverse client portfolio.

Qualifications

• Management experience within a NZ mid-tier or large accounting firm.
• Proven ability to lead, coach and develop high-performing BAS teams.
• Strong technical expertise in financial reporting, business advisory and NZ taxation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the BAS team and partner with a Principal to deliver advisory and compliance services.
• Coach and mentor team members and foster professional growth.
• Manage a client portfolio and build trusted, long-term relationships.
• Review financial statements and ensure high-quality accounting deliverables.
• Provide expert advice on Income Tax, GST, FBT and tax planning.
• Prepare or review IFRS financial statements where applicable.
• Identify opportunities for business improvement and value creation for clients.
• Maintain client service standards and compliance with legislation.

About the Role

Based in our Newmarket office, you’ll work closely with a Partner to lead, mentor and develop a talented BAS team while delivering exceptional advisory and compliance services to a diverse client portfolio.

You’ll be responsible for driving team performance, fostering client relationships, and identifying opportunities to provide strategic business advice that creates real value for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, coordination and management of the team’s workflow to ensure quality outcomes and efficient delivery.
• Coach, mentor and develop team members, supporting both their technical and professional growth.
• Manage your own portfolio of clients, building strong, long-term relationships as a trusted business adviser.
• Review financial statements and ensure the delivery of high-quality accounting and advisory services.
• Provide expert advice on complex tax matters, including Income Tax, GST, FBT and tax planning.
• Prepare and review financial reports, cash flow forecasts, management reports and, where applicable, IFRS financial statements.
• Support clients with business improvement initiatives, financial forecasting, due diligence and valuation projects.
• Identify advisory opportunities and provide commercially focused solutions that help clients achieve their business goals.
• Maintain exceptional client service standards while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and professional standards.

About You

You’re an experienced BAS Manager who enjoys leading people, developing talent and building meaningful client relationships. You thrive in a collaborative environment, take ownership of your work and are motivated by the opportunity to influence both team success and client outcomes.

You’ll bring:

• Previous management experience within a New Zealand mid-tier or large accounting firm.
• Proven success leading, coaching and developing high-performing teams.
• Strong technical expertise in financial reporting, business advisory and New Zealand taxation.
• Advanced knowledge of Income Tax, GST, FBT and the NZ IRD systems.
• Experience managing a diverse client portfolio with confidence and autonomy.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong commercial acumen.
• Experience preparing or reviewing IFRS financial statements (desirable).
