Job summary

Foodstuffs South Island Limited in Timaru is seeking a Bakery Apprentice to start their journey. You’ll train toward The New Zealand Certificate in Baking Level 4 while working alongside a skilled team.

You’ll learn dough production, mixing, shaping, baking, icing and cake decoration, with duties including prep for the next day and maintaining a clean, safe bakery environment. Overseas applicants must hold NZ citizenship or a valid NZ work permit.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship pathway with NZ Certificate in Baking Level 4.
• Willingness to learn and follow directions.
• Demonstrated passion for food and baking.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects safely.

Responsibilities

• Assist with dough mixing, shaping and baking.
• Learn scratch baking of daily bread and pastries.
• Decorate cakes and icing as needed.
• Prep for following day and keep area clean and sanitised.

Are you ready to rise to the occasion! We have an excellent opportunity for someone to start their apprentice journey as a Bakery Apprentice!!! We’re committed to supporting the successful applicant through apprenticeship, completing The New Zealand Certificate in Baking Level 4. You’ll train alongside a skilled supportive team who are dedicated to helping you successfully complete your baker apprenticeship.

This role is all about dough production. Mixing it, shaping it, baking it, and making sure our shelves are stocked with the breads our customers can’t resist. You will learn scratch baking our daily bread and sweet products, baking, icing and decorating cakes, and help prep and plan for the following day so everything runs smoothly.

We are looking for an individual who:

• Can lift and carry heavy objects
• Has a passion for food and baking
• High standards of food safety
• A friendly team focused attitude
• Motivated and reliable with an excellent work ethic
• Someone who listens, follows directions and is keen to learn
• Will keep the bakery area clean, organised and sanitised according to company policies.

This is a permanent full–time position, the exact hours and days will be discussed at interview stage and will include one weekend day.
