Job summary

The Civil Aviation Authority of NZ is seeking a Behavioural Detection Officer (BDO) at Auckland Airport for a permanent full‑time role. You will use observation, judgment and people skills to identify unusual behaviour, assess potential threats and help keep New Zealand’s aviation system safe and secure.

Successful applicants will receive comprehensive training starting February 2027, a competitive salary of $72,187 per year, and opportunities for ongoing development.

Qualifications

• NZ/Australian citizen or NZ resident (essential)
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
• Willingness to work a rotating roster, including weekends and holidays
• Willingness to travel to other NZ airports when required

Responsibilities

• Engage with passengers, airport workers, and the public
• Observe and assess behaviour to identify potential risks
• Gather information through conversations and reporting
• Assist in de-escalating situations and coordinating with agencies
• Support aviation security operations across NZ airports
