St Peter’s is a leading independent boarding school nestled in the heart of Cambridge, New Zealand. With a rich history of ninety years, we are committed to providing a world-class education that fosters academic excellence, personal growth, and leadership development. Our vibrant community of students, educators, and families embodies our values of integrity, respect and excellence.

We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Audio Visual Technician to join our team on a casual, term-time basis, providing technical support across our Music and Performing Arts department, school functions and campus events.

This is a great opportunity for a candidate with a strong background or interest in audio-visual technology seeking flexible employment. Working up to 25 hours per week during school terms with full-time hours available during peak event and production seasons, you will support our permanent AV Technicians, provide cover during busy periods or staff leave, and play a key role in bringing our school events, assemblies, and productions to life

Reporting through to the Director of Performing Arts, you will work collaboratively across campus to deliver high-quality technical support.

The Role & Responsibilities:

  • Technical Setup & Delivery: Set up, operate, and pack down sound, lighting, video and staging equipment in our Auditorium and across the campus for assemblies, chapels, musical productions, and special events.
  • Troubleshooting & Live Support: Provide real-time technical problem-solving and sound/lighting operation during live events.
  • Maintenance & Inventory: Assist with routine maintenance, testing and safe storage of AV equipment and theatre production gear.
  • Department Support: Support staff, external venue users and student technical crews to ensure events run smoothly and safely.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Practical experience or a strong, demonstrated interest in live sound, lighting, and AV technology (experience in theatre production is advantageous).
  • Ability to think on your feet, adapt to varied everyday tasks, and bring creative ideas to enhance our Performing Arts department and campus events.
  • Flexibility to work up to 25 hours per week during term time, scaling up to full-time hours during peak production and event periods (including occasional evenings and weekends).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff and students.
  • A high level of reliability and physical capability to handle set-up and pack-down responsibilities.
  • A commitment to St Peter’s values and maintaining a child-safe environment.

What We Offer:

At St Peter’s we have an exceptional work environment set in beautifully landscaped grounds. We offer excellent employment benefits including access to our gym and pool facilities, staff lunches, generous employer contribution to KiwiSaver, and a culture that values excellence and wellbeing.

  • Location: Required to be on-campus Monday to Friday, term time only (and occasionally during term breaks to support key events and junior and senior productions).
  • Hours: Casual, term time only (typically up to 25 hours per week; up to full-time during peak production seasons). Hourly rate to be agreed commensurate on experience and skills.
  • Commencement: As soon as practical.

We offer a competitive hourly and a supportive, vibrant campus environment. St Peter's, Cambridge is a child safe school.
