Job summary

TomTom Productions in Queenstown, NZ is seeking experienced Audio and Video Technicians to join our events team, delivering immersive AV experiences for festivals, galas, and corporate events in Otago.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years in AV for live events, strong knowledge of audio routing, RF management, LED/video systems, and hands-on rigging and maintenance. Driver's license and willingness to travel are a plus. Based in Queenstown with occasional travel.

Responsibilities

  • Show delivery: collaborate with account managers and clients to grasp their vision and plan shows.

  • On-site operations: supervise crew, ensure safety, and maintain high standards during event delivery.

Are you an experienced events technician ready to make your mark in the Otago region?


TomTom Productions is a leader in the event space with almost 2 decades of experience, and we are seeking a skilled Audio Event Technician to be part of our team in the stunning setting of Queenstown, NZ.


We are looking to fill two roles in the company, an Experienced Audio Technician, and an Experienced Video Technician .


In these roles, you'll collaborate with a tight-knit team to design and deliver the epic events that this beautiful region has to offer! From music festivals like Rhythm and Alps and Snow Machine to sophisticated corporate gala dinners in unique venues, you'll have the opportunity to transform spaces into the immersive environments TomTom is renowned for.



What You'll Do as an Event Technician


Show Delivery:


Collaborate with our account managers and clients to grasp their vision and keep the communication flowing.


Develop detailed technical plans and system documentation, covering everything from schematics to rigging and data management.


Prepare console show files and pull sheets, ensuring load-in plans are executed with precision.



Event Execution:


Confirm pull sheets with the account manager to facilitate smooth load-ins and operate shows as needed.


Navigate load-in and load-out processes with efficiency.


Oversee our inventory, making sure all equipment is top-notch, clean, and compliant with testing standards.


Stay on top of department equipment and software, managing maintenance and repairs.


Set the standard during onsite operations and warehouse preparations, adhering to our processes.


Engage in staff meetings, network within the community, and take part in staff training and development.


Represent TomTom with professionalism while supervising casual crew members during events.



General Responsibilities:


Pitch in at the workshop as needed, keeping work areas clean and safe.


Build positive relationships with teammates, suppliers, and clients.


Bring initiative to the table as we pursue our creative and operational goals at TomTom Productions.



What We're Looking For


To excel in these roles, you should have experience with Audio/Visual equipment and systems, with a background knowledge of conferences/festivals, and a proven track record in delivering business events (think conferences and galas) or live entertainment. You’ll be applying for one of the following roles:


A bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of full time experience in a related role and strong audio knowledge, or


3 years of relevant experience with a solid understanding of electrical systems.


Strong technical knowledge of signal routing, wireless RF management, digital mixing, and PA deployment.


4+ years of experience in either conferencing, festivals, or broadcasting in a role that allows you to work independently on site.


or a bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of full time experience in a related role.


Solid technical knowledge across a range of video systems, with specialization in LED screens, camera systems, or projection systems


Bonus Points For Either Role:



  • Experience and qualifications in Rigging.

  • Class 2 Drivers licence + Confidence in driving manual vehicles.

  • Additional certificates in Health and Safety or Event Production including but not limited to (MEWP, First Aid, Height and Harness).

  • Confidence in loading/unloading trucks for events.

  • Experience as an Account Manager, working directly with clients to design and manage events.



Working Conditions:


A schedule that reflects the realities of events, balancing busy weeks with quieter ones — typically averaging around 120 hours per month.


Shifts may include weekends and evenings.


Competitive pay ranging from $30 - $37 per hour.

This role is Queenstown-based, though occasional travel may be required for specific events.
