Job summary

SYOS in Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, seeks a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to own complex design, integration and testing of autonomous platforms across mechanical, electrical and embedded software domains.

You will mentor junior engineers, develop sensors and controllers, and lead cross-disciplinary workstreams to deliver field-ready products with strong documentation and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' relevant engineering experience in robotics or autonomous systems.
  • Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Software, or Computer Systems Engineering.
  • Strong experience with mechatronic and embedded systems.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Hands-on, practical approach to robotics and autonomous systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development and integration of mechatronic and embedded systems.
  • Translate system requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Develop and integrate sensors, actuators, controllers and embedded systems.
  • Design, prototype, test and troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Develop and integrate embedded software, including C/C++.
  • Lead technical workstreams and solve complex engineering problems.
  • Collaborate across Mechanical, Electrical, Software, GNC and Systems teams.
  • Review designs and provide technical guidance to other engineers.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing knowledge and engineering best practice.
  • Contribute to engineering standards, processes and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation and development records.
