Job summary

SYOS Aerospace, Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, is seeking a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to own complex challenges across design, integration and testing of autonomous platforms. This is a hands-on role spanning mechanical, electrical, embedded software and systems engineering, with mentoring responsibilities to grow the team.

The successful candidate will lead mechatronic and embedded system development, translate requirements into practical solutions and contribute to standards and processes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' relevant engineering experience in robotics, aerospace or autonomous systems.
• Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Software, Computer Systems Engineering or related.
• Strong experience with mechatronic and embedded systems.
• Practical C/C++ development experience.
• Strong understanding of hardware/software integration and system-level testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and integration of mechatronic and embedded systems.
• Translate system requirements into practical engineering solutions.
• Develop and integrate sensors, actuators, controllers and embedded systems.
• Design, prototype, test and troubleshoot complex systems.
• Develop and integrate embedded software, including C/C++.
• Lead technical workstreams and solve complex engineering problems.
• Collaborate across Mechanical, Electrical, Software, GNC and Systems teams.
• Review designs and provide technical guidance to other engineers.
• Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing knowledge and engineering best practice.
• Contribute to engineering standards, processes and continuous improvement.
• Maintain clear technical documentation and development records.
