Job summary

Suncorp NZ is seeking an Assistant Underwriter to support profitable growth across the SME commercial portfolio and work closely with intermediaries, customers and internal stakeholders. You will assess risks and help deliver underwriting solutions that drive portfolio performance.

Key activities include managing renewals and new opportunities, building broker relationships, and contributing to process improvements, governance, and seamless customer outcomes in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial underwriting, insurance or a related role within the general insurance industry.
• Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, underwriting principles and risk assessment practices.
• Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with brokers, intermediaries, customers and internal stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, balancing commercial considerations with risk management.
• Knowledge of the New Zealand commercial insurance market and SME sector.

• Contribute to a strong risk and performance culture by adhering to underwriting guidelines, policies, and governance requirements.
