Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial underwriting, insurance or a related role within the general insurance industry.
• Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, underwriting principles and risk assessment practices.
• Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with brokers, intermediaries, customers and internal stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, balancing commercial considerations with risk management.
• Knowledge of the New Zealand commercial insurance market and SME sector.

Responsibilities

• Manage renewal and new business opportunities, providing tailored underwriting solutions that support retention and portfolio growth.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with intermediaries and business partners, delivering excellent service and customer outcomes.
• Support the achievement of growth, profitability and portfolio performance targets through effective risk assessment and decision-making.
• Collaborate with distribution, operations, claims and underwriting teams to deliver seamless customer and partner experiences.
• Manage digital referrals and contribute to initiatives that improve underwriting processes, system performance, and customer outcomes.
• Identify opportunities to support innovation, automation and continuous improvement across underwriting activities.
• Contribute to a strong risk and performance culture by adhering to underwriting guidelines, policies, and governance requirements.
