John Andrew Ford in Grey Lynn, Auckland is seeking an ambitious Assistant Retail Sales Manager to join our high-performing team. You will lead from the front, coach Sales Consultants, and help drive sales performance and exceptional customer experiences.

The role requires 5+ years in automotive retail sales, a strong product knowledge base, and a genuine passion for developing people within a fast-paced environment. NZ driver licence and work rights are required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience in automotive retail sales.
• Proven track record of meeting/exceeding sales targets.
• Strong product knowledge and closing skills.
• Leadership potential or experience mentoring others.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Customer-first mindset with commitment to delivering exceptional experiences.
• Full NZ driver licence and right to work in New Zealand.

• Monitor KPIs and support accountability to targets.
• Create exceptional customer experiences from enquiry through to delivery.

• Identify opportunities to improve sales performance and profitability.
• Step up to lead the team and dealership operations when required.
• Lead by example and contribute to a high-performance culture.

As our Assistant Retail Sales Manager, you’ll play a key role in:

• Supporting the Retail Sales Manager with daily sales operations and team leadership.
• Leading, motivating and supporting our Sales Consultants.
• Coaching the team to improve performance, process and closing skills.
• Working alongside the team on the showroom floor and with customers.
• Supporting deal structure, negotiations and closing.
• Driving daily sales activity, prospecting and follow‑up.

HAVE YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES?

• 5+ years’ experience in automotive retail sales.
• A proven track record of consistently achieving and exceeding sales targets.
• Strong product knowledge, qualification and closing skills.
• Previous experience mentoring, coaching or leading others, or the clear potential to step into leadership.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A strong commercial mindset and understanding of sales profitability.
• The confidence to have challenging conversations when required.
• High energy, resilience and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
• A genuine passion for developing people and getting the best out of a team.
• A customer‑first mindset and commitment to delivering exceptional experiences.
• A full NZ driver licence.
• The legal right to work in New Zealand.
