Job summary

Papatoetoe North School in Mangere East, Auckland, seeks an inspiring Assistant Principal to lead our Years 1–8 junior school team. A collaborative leader, you will contribute to the Senior Leadership Team, oversee curricula and planning, and support health and safety reporting to the Board of Trustees.

You will champion relational trust, strengthen connections with staff, students and whānau, and drive our restorative approach and SENCO/Learning Support work.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an inspiring assistant principal to lead our junior school team, a collaborative leader who is passionate about education.

We proudly serve a diverse, vibrant community comprised of 50% Pacific Nations, 30% Indian/Fijian Indian, and 20% Māori. We offer bilingual pathways in Te Reo Māori, Samoan, Tongan, and Hindi, alongside our English medium classes.

Key responsibilities and attributes

• Senior leadership team (SLT) contribution: Active participation in overall school administration, strategic planning, health and safety management, and reporting to the Board of Trustees.
• Syndicate and curriculum leadership: Overseeing syndicate teaching and learning, conducting planning checks, walkthroughs, observations, and guiding teacher Growth Cycles.
• Relational trust and advocacy: Championing teacher voice, fostering open feedback, and building strong connections between leadership, staff, students, and whānau.
• Restorative and learning support expertise: Leading syndicate behaviour management using our restorative model ("Own it, fix it, learn from it") and collaborating on SENCO/Learning Support initiatives.
• Cultural responsiveness: Deep commitment to our diverse community (Pacific Nations, Indian/Fijian Indian, Māori) and supporting our bilingual pathways.

The terms and conditions, including base salary, for this position are set by the Primary Teachers' Collective Agreement. Individual salary assessment will be established once the role is confirmed.
