Nati Growth Ltd in Gisborne is seeking an Assistant Accountant (full or part-time) to support day-to-day financial operations across multiple entities within the Ngāti Porou group. This role offers exposure to financial accounting, reporting, payroll, tax compliance, and group finance in a values-driven organisation.

Open to Gisborne-based applicants, with a strong grounding in accounting and a proactive, collaborative approach.

Qualifications

• Completed or near-completed degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or related discipline.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
• Sound analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• A proactive and collaborative approach.
• High levels of integrity and professionalism.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Finance or accounting experience is advantageous; graduates welcome; te ao Māori knowledge is beneficial but not essential.

This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging accountant to gain exposure across financial accounting, reporting, payroll, tax compliance, and group finance while working in a values-driven organisation committed to making a positive difference for our people.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations across several entities within the wider Ngati Porou Group.

You’ll work closely with an experienced finance team and gain broad exposure to:

• Accounts payable and receivable
• Bank reconciliations and transaction processing
• Payroll support and reporting
• Month‑end accounting and management reporting
• Budgeting and forecasting support
• GST and FBT compliance
• Group consolidations and statutory reporting
• Audit preparation and external reporting
• Financial systems and process improvement initiatives

This is a permanent, full-time position based in our Gisborne office.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

A completed or near‑completed degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline

Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills

Sound analytical and problem‑solving abilities

A proactive and collaborative approach

High levels of integrity and professionalism

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Experience in a finance or accounting environment will be advantageous, but we are also interested in motivated graduates who are eager to develop their careers.
Knowledge of Te Ao Māori, kaupapa Māori principles, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi is beneficial but not essential.
