Job summary

Truck Stops Napier is seeking an Apprentice Heavy Diesel Technician to learn and grow in a busy workshop, servicing and repairing heavy trucks and commercial vehicles.

Through the MITO apprenticeship programme, you'll work toward a nationally recognised qualification while gaining hands-on experience with modern equipment and industry-leading technology. We value attitude, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to build a long-term career.

Qualifications

• Attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
• Interest in mechanics, trucks and how things work.
• NCEA Level 2 or equivalent incl Maths & English.
• Commitment to MITO studies and completing studies.
• Reliable transport to and from work.
• New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency.
• Pre-trade automotive qualification would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Learn alongside experienced technicians to service, maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy commercial vehicles.
• Work through the MITO apprenticeship toward a nationally recognised qualification.
• Gain hands-on experience in a busy workshop environment.

What we're looking for

You'll ideally have:

• A positive, can‑do attitude
• A genuine interest in mechanics, trucks, and how things work
• NCEA Level 2 or equivalent, including Maths and English
• The commitment and self‑discipline required to complete your MITO studies
• Reliable transport to and from work
• A Full or Restricted Driver Licence
• New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency

A pre-trade automotive qualification would be an advantage, but it's not essential.
