Job summary

Southern Cross Health Insurance is building a new Data & AI function in Auckland and seeks an Analytics Engineer to design, build and maintain analytics data models using dbt and Snowflake. You will transform raw data into trusted, analytics-ready datasets and collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.

You will contribute to governance, testing, documentation, lineage and code reviews while expanding capabilities across the modern

Qualifications

• Experience building analytics solutions using Snowflake and dbt or equivalent tools.
• Strong SQL skills and data modelling knowledge including dimensional modelling and medallion architecture.
• Experience with Git-based development, CI/CD and software engineering practices.
• Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, reusable data products.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Curious, continuous-learning mindset and willingness to improve quality, speed and simplicity.
• Collaborative style with knowledge sharing and team focus.
• Commitment to quality, documentation and operational excellence.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain analytics data models using dbt and Snowflake.
• Develop incremental and dimensional models that are scalable and performant.
• Apply software engineering practices including Git, code reviews and automated testing.
• Monitor data quality and investigate issues to keep data assets reliable.
• Optimize Snowflake storage and compute usage for performance and cost.
• Create and maintain documentation, metadata and lineage for data products.
• Collaborate with data engineers to structure source data effectively.
• Partner with analysts and stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Support Power BI and other reporting tools with curated datasets.
• Build trusted data products that power advanced analytics and AI solutions.
