Job summary

Southern Cross Health Insurance is building a new Data & AI function and seeks an Analytics Engineer to design, build, and maintain analytics data models using Snowflake and dbt. You’ll work with data engineers, analysts and stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose datasets that support Power BI and other reporting tools.

Reporting into the Innovation & Advanced Analytics Lead, you’ll embed best practices, testing, lineage and documentation as the data stack scales.

Qualifications

• Experience building analytics solutions using Snowflake and dbt or equivalent tools.
• Strong SQL and data modelling knowledge, including dimensional modelling and medallion architecture.
• Experience with Git-based development, CI/CD and software engineering practices.
• Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, reusable data products.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

About the role

As we grow to be about assurance as well as insurance - a more proactive partner in our members’ health - we’re building a new Data & AI function from the ground up. We’re looking for an Analytics Engineer to help build the trusted, well-modelled data that everything else in the function depends on. Reporting into the Innovation & Advanced Analytics Lead, you’ll design, build and maintain the dbt models that transform raw data into the analytics-ready datasets the business runs on - the layer between the data warehouse and the people who use it every day. You’ll work closely with data engineers to structure source data effectively, and with analysts and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions - supporting Power BI and other reporting tools with curated, governed datasets. This function is still being built, so you’ll help embed good practice as it grows - testing, documentation, lineage and code review - while exploring new capabilities across Snowflake, dbt and the wider modern data stack.

What you’ll do

• Design, build and maintain analytics data models using dbt and Snowflake
• Develop incremental and dimensional models that are scalable, performant and easy to understand
• Apply software engineering practices, including Git, code reviews, CI/CD and automated testing
• Monitor data quality and investigate issues to keep our data assets trusted and reliable
• Optimise Snowflake storage and compute usage to balance performance and cost
• Create and maintain documentation, metadata and lineage for data products
• Collaborate with data engineers to ingest and structure source data effectively
• Partner with analysts and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions
• Support Power BI and other reporting tools with curated, governed datasets
• Build trusted data products that power advanced analytics and AI solutions

What you’ll bring

• Experience building and maintaining analytics solutions using Snowflake and dbt, or other equivalent tools
• Strong SQL skills and a solid understanding of data modelling principles, including dimensional modelling and medallion architecture
