PPS Mutual New Zealand is seeking a Pricing Actuary to lead pricing strategy development for our life insurance products in New Zealand. You will develop and maintain pricing models, provide profitability analyses, and collaborate with Product, Finance, Risk, and Distribution teams.

Qualifications

  • Fellow or Associate of the NZ Society of Actuaries or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years' experience in life insurance pricing and product development in NZ.
  • Experience with administration and pricing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain pricing frameworks and methodologies for PPS Mutual's product portfolio.
  • Produce actuarially sound pricing recommendations that support growth, profitability, and sustainability objectives.
  • Ensure pricing practices comply with relevant professional actuarial standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance pricing models for existing and new insurance products.
  • Assess the pricing impact of product enhancements, benefit changes, and distribution initiatives.
  • Conduct sensitivity and scenario testing to understand pricing risks and opportunities.
  • Monitor emerging experience and recommend pricing adjustments where appropriate.
  • Analyse claims, lapse, retention, and expense experience to assess profitability performance.
  • Monitor competitor pricing and product developments within the New Zealand life insurance market.
  • Develop and maintain actuarial datasets, assumptions, and pricing models.

About the Role

The Pricing Actuary is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of pricing strategies and actuarial models that support PPS Mutual's life insurance products. The role combines actuarial expertise, commercial insight, and data-driven decision-making to ensure that products remain competitive, financially sustainable, and aligned with PPS Mutual's strategic objectives. The Pricing Actuary works closely with Product, Finance, Risk, Reinsurance, Distribution, and Operations teams to provide pricing recommendations, profitability analysis, and market insights.

Qualifications
  • Fellow or Associate of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries (or equivalent recognised actuarial body)
  • At least three years' experience within life insurance pricing and product development for the New Zealand market
  • Experience with administration and pricing systems
Required Skills
  • Strong actuarial modelling and analytical capabilities
  • Experience using actuarial and data analysis tools such as R, Python, SQL, or equivalent
  • Ability to analyse complex data and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of insurance profitability drivers
