Asteron Life New Zealand is hiring a Senior Actuarial Analyst to support capital, valuation and reinsurance activities. You will work with the broader Actuarial team, Finance and business leaders to deliver high-quality analysis, reporting, and insights that inform strategic decisions and strengthen performance.

Qualifications

  • Progress towards an actuarial qualification, ideally part-qualified through to Associate level or equivalent experience.
  • Experience within life insurance, actuarial, or broader financial services environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, work through ambiguity and apply structured thinking.
  • Exposure to valuation, reporting, capital, solvency or reinsurance activities, with sound actuarial judgement.
  • Proactive, collaborative approach and ability to build relationships with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Support capital and solvency reporting with insights to guide decisions.

The Opportunity

Join Asteron as a Senior Actuarial Analyst and play a key role in supporting the business’s capital, valuation and reinsurance activities while contributing across a broad range of actuarial initiatives. Working closely with the wider Actuarial team, Finance and business leaders, you’ll deliver high-quality analysis, reporting and insights that help inform strategic decision-making and strengthen business performance.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an analytically minded actuarial professional who enjoys solving complex problems, working with data and driving continuous improvement. You’ll gain exposure to major reporting cycles, regulatory requirements and business planning activities while helping modernise processes, strengthen controls and improve the efficiency of actuarial reporting, modelling and analysis.

How will you make an impact?

  • Support the delivery of capital and solvency reporting, providing insights that help guide key business and regulatory decisions.

  • Contribute to the management and analysis of reinsurance arrangements, ensuring data accuracy and effective risk management.

  • Produce high-quality actuarial valuations, reporting and analysis that support business performance, regulatory obligations and strategic decision-making.

  • Analyse complex datasets and actuarial models to identify trends, risks and opportunities across the portfolio.

  • Partner with stakeholders across Actuarial, Finance and the wider business to communicate complex insights and support informed decision-making.

  • Drive continuous improvement by enhancing reporting processes, strengthening controls and identifying automation opportunities.

  • Play an active role in key actuarial projects and help shape the ongoing development of Asteron’s actuarial capability.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Progress towards an actuarial qualification, ideally part-qualified through to Associate level, or bring equivalent actuarial experience.

  • Experience within life insurance, actuarial, or broader financial services environments.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate findings into meaningful insights.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, work through ambiguity and apply structured thinking to deliver practical outcomes.

  • Exposure to valuation, reporting, capital, solvency or reinsurance activities, alongside sound actuarial judgement.

  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to build effective relationships across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience using Excel, SQL, R, Python, Prophet or similar actuarial modelling tools will be highly regarded
