Job summary

Bupa Stokeswood Care Home in Lower Hutt is seeking an experienced Activities Coordinator for a permanent part-time role, 28 hours per week, 9:00am–3:30pm, on a 4 on, 2 off roster. You will plan and deliver engaging activities across our 87-bed home and support resident wellbeing with a person-centred approach.

You will lead a small team, develop individual activity plans, and contribute to the Blua App experience to keep residents, whānau and care teams connected.

Qualifications

  • NZQA Diversional Therapy Level 4 certificate or working towards it.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar healthcare setting.
  • Creative flair to contribute to a varied activities programme.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and be able to drive the van for outings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of activities assistants, ensuring activities are engaging and coordinated.
  • Manage activity plans for an 87-bed care home.
  • Plan, develop and lead individualised activity plans for each resident.
  • Ensure residents are treated with respect, dignity and cultural sensitivity.
  • Support on-site managers and pursue staff up-skilling.

Bupa Stokeswood Care Home in Lower Hutt is a well-established care home offering Rest Home, Hospital and Dementia level care, giving you the opportunity to work with residents across a diverse range of needs and interests. As Activities Coordinator, you'll take ownership of planning and delivering activities that bring purpose, enjoyment, connection, and routine to residents' daily lives. From group activities and celebrations through to personalised one-on-one engagement, you'll help residents continue doing the things that matter most to them.

You’ll also play an important role in supporting Bupa's Blua App experience. Through your work, residents, whānau, family members and care teams stay connected through shared access to activities, wellbeing updates, daily routines and care information. Your contribution helps strengthen communication, support resident wellbeing, and create a more connected care journey for everyone involved.

This permanent part-time position offers 28 hours per week on a 4 shifts on, 2 shifts off roster, working 9:00am to 3:30pm. It's an excellent opportunity for someone who values consistency, meaningful work, and being part of a trusted aged care provider with strong local roots.

Hours & Roster Details:

  • Shift Time: Mornings 9:00am to 3:30pm
  • Roster Pattern: 4 shifts on, 2 shifts off (6-weekly roster across Monday - Sunday)
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and support a team of activities assistants, ensuring activities are well-coordinated, engaging, and aligned with residents’ needs.
  • Manage activity plans for residents across this 87-bed care home.
  • Plan, develop, and lead individualised activity plans for each resident based on the activity assessment outcome, their interests, and preferences.
  • Ensure our valuable residents are treated with full respect, dignity, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Maintain personal and professional development - we have on-site managers who always encourage our staff to up-skill!
Skills and Qualification

To be successful in this role, you will enjoy a variety of work and have prior experience in this field, along with an interest in and understanding of the elderly and their needs.

  • You’ll have a NZQA (or equivalent) Diversional Therapy (level 4) Certificate (or working towards a DT qualification)
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferable.
  • Have a creative flair to contribute towards a full and varied activities programme and help look after our residents while creating a caring atmosphere.
  • You are a caring, team player, vibrant, and energetic, with an active interest in organising activities for multiple levels of function and ability.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You will be required to drive the van for outings so a clean, full driver's license is essential.
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in NZ.
