Job summary

Bupa Whitby Care Home in Porirua is seeking an experienced Activities Coordinator to lead a team and shape meaningful programmes across Rest Home, Hospital, and Dementia care. You will plan and deliver engaging activities that boost residents’ wellbeing and connection, while working across a 101-bed site.

This role requires a NZQA Diversional Therapy Level 4 certificate (or working towards it), at least two years in healthcare, and strong leadership, creativity, and communication.

Qualifications

• NZQA Diversional Therapy Level 4 certificate or working towards qualification.
• Minimum two years' experience in healthcare or aged care.
• Proven leadership, motivation and people-support skills.
• Creativity to develop engaging activity programmes.

Responsibilities

• Leading a team of 4 activities staff
• Manage activity plans for residents across rest home and hospital levels of care
• Plan, develop, and lead individualised activity plans for each resident based on the activity assessment outcome, their interests, and preferences

Hours & Roster Details:

• Employment Type:Permanent Full Time
• Hours:Average 32 hours per week
• Shift Time: Morning Shifts, 9:30am to 5:00pm, MUST be able to work across the rostered weekends
• Roster Pattern: 4 shifts on, 2 shifts off (6-weekly roster across Monday - Sunday)

The purpose of this job

If you're an experienced Activities Coordinator looking for more ownership, this is an opportunity to lead a team of 4 Activity Assistants and shape meaningful programmes across a large and diverse aged care environment.

Based at Bupa Whitby Care Home in Porirua, you'll coordinate activities for residents across Rest Home, Hospital, Dementia, and Specialist Dementia/Psychogeriatric care within a 101-bed care home. From walking groups and gardening projects to social events and personalised activities, you'll have the scope to create programmes that genuinely improve residents' wellbeing and connection.

As the Activities Coordinator you will:

• Leading a team of 4 activities staff
• Manage activity plans for residents across rest home and hospital levels of care
• Plan, develop, and lead individualised activity plans for each resident based on the activity assessment outcome, their interests, and preferences
• Ensure our valuable residents are treated with full respect, dignity, and cultural sensitivity
• Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to Bupa Health & Safety policies
• Maintain personal and professional development

What you'll need to make it possible

• Have a NZQA (or equivalent) Diversional Therapy (level 4) Certificate (or working towards a DT qualification)
• Previous experience (min two years or more) in a healthcare or aged care environment is preferred
• Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and support others
• Creativity and enthusiasm to develop and deliver a diverse, engaging activities programme that enhances residents' wellbeing and creates a warm, caring environment
• A compassionate, energetic, and positive team player with a genuine passion for enriching the lives of older people and catering to varying levels of ability and independence
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with residents, families, and colleagues
• A full, clean driver's licence as the role may involve driving the facility van for resident outings and community activities.
