Job summary

Hutt City Council is looking for an Accounts Payable Officer to join our Finance team at our central Lower Hutt offices. You’ll help ensure suppliers are paid accurately and on time, while providing quality financial administration and support to colleagues across Council.

In this role you will process invoices, match them with purchase orders, respond to supplier inquiries and maintain accurate financial records.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in accounts payable
• Strong attention to detail and accurate data entry skills
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
• Good communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to work with colleagues and suppliers
• The ability to work independently, use initiative and meet deadlines
• Confidence using financial systems and computer applications

Responsibilities

• Accounts payable: Process invoices and payments accurately and on time, ensuring the correct approvals are in place.
• Purchase orders: Check and match invoices against purchase orders and goods receipts, following up on any discrepancies or outstanding queries.
• Customer service: Respond to enquiries from suppliers and internal teams, providing helpful and timely support.
• Financial administration: Maintain accurate financial records, support reporting requirements and contribute to improving processes and efficiencies.
