Job summary

WM New Zealand is seeking an Accounts Assistant to join a large Joint Venture operation in Whitford, Southeast Auckland, near Beachlands/Flat Bush. The role focuses on owning accounting functions, month-end processes, and JV reporting within a small team.

Reporting to the Joint Venture Manager, you will oversee transactions, invoicing, debtor management, and contribute to process improvements while upskilling across the business. NZ residency or visa required.

Qualifications

• Accounting or finance background with a minimum of five years’ work experience, ideally in a large complex organization with tight month end deadlines.
• JDE/ ACCESS system experience is preferred.
• Strong data modelling and analysis skills.
• Ability to collate and analyse data from multiple sources and systems.
• Excellent time management and commercial skills.
• Good communication skills both verbal and written.
• Ability to communicate complex accounting issues to non-accountants.
• Team player with willingness to involve yourself with the wider team, but equally comfortable working autonomously.
• Knowledge of the construction, logistics, or waste industries would be an advantage.
• Interest in learning new systems and processes.

Responsibilities

• Review and implement processes and procedures, including robust internal controls.
• Ensure timely and accurate month end reporting, including standardization improvements.
• Oversee recording of transactions, including purchase orders, invoicing, debtor management.
• Assist with weighbridge controls, invoicing, customer setup, reporting, and customer liaison.
• Database management, Toitu sustainability certification, and other management systems.
• Assist with the Joint Venture external reporting, audit requirements, budgeting, and annual tasks as required.
• Support Operational, Commercial & Finance Managers and the wider JV team with variety of general office tasks.
