Job summary

Bayleys Auckland Head Office is seeking an Assistant Accountant to provide end-to-end accounting support across the Bayleys Group. You will prepare monthly accounts, collaborate on budgets with operations, and help maintain accurate financial records.

You will join a dedicated finance team, help deliver timely reports, develop key models, and offer insights to management. This role offers growth in a large NZ-owned property company.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Previous experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with non-finance stakeholders.
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Drive and passion to continuously improve both yourself and surroundings.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly financial accounts for specific entities within the Bayleys Group of companies.
  • Balance sheet and other reconciliations.
  • Preparation of yearly budgets in collaboration with operations.
  • Maintenance of property lease database.
  • Review and approval of monthly accounts payable payments.
  • Compliance with and monitoring of internal controls.
  • Filing of GST and FBT returns and other taxation duties.
  • Review of monthly accounts with variance analysis.
  • Presentation of financial results to management with insights from analysis.
  • Build, maintain and improve key financial models and tools.

The Role

Based at the Bayleys Head Office in the Wynyard Quarter of Auckland City the Assistant Accountant, as a part of the Finance Team, provides end-to-end accounting support and services to the Bayleys Group of companies.

This includes working alongside various teams both within and outside of finance to ensure timely and accurate accounting records, financial reports and analysis.

The role is unique in that it encompasses all facets of the accounting function from the preparation of the monthly accounts through to the presentation of them to key management personnel, giving you visibility and the opportunity to make a name for yourself, far beyond any other assistant accountant role - and you will be supported all the way in doing so. As a result, the opportunities for both your skills and career development are greatly increased.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation of monthly financial accounts for specific entities within the Bayleys Group of companies
  • Balance sheet and other reconciliations
  • Preparation of yearly budgets in collaboration with operations
  • Maintenance of property lease database
  • Review and approval of monthly accounts payable payments
  • Compliance with and monitoring of internal controls
  • Filing of GST and FBT returns as well as other administrative taxation and statutory duties
  • Review of monthly accounts providing analysis and commentary of variances between actuals and comparables
  • Presentation to key management personnel over financial results and providing insights based off analysis and research
  • Building, maintaining, and improving on key models and tools used by the finance team
  • Other tasks as required by the management, which includes but is not limited to tasks related to the completion of your professional development
Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and regulations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills being able to explain financial information to non-finance people
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Drive and passion to continuously improve both yourself and your surroundings
