We're adding an Assistant Financial Accountant to our Auckland finance team. Reporting to our Senior Accountant, you'll take ownership of a defined set of recurring accounting work across month-end, reconciliations, journals, cashflow forecasting and debtor follow-up, while cross‑training across the wider finance function. It's a genuine growth role for someone with solid practical accounting experience who wants to keep developing.
Monday to Friday, based at our Ellerslie office. Hybrid working is available, although you'll be on‑site full time for your first few months so you can settle in well and build strong working relationships with the team.
Key Responsibilities not limited to:
Month‑End Close & Reconciliations
- Owning an agreed set of balance sheet reconciliations each month, with clear supporting documentation.
- Preparing and posting journals, accruals, prepayments and reclassifications in Microsoft Dynamics 365.
- Supporting cut‑off procedures and continuous improvement of month‑end workpapers and checklists.
Fixed Assets, Credit Cards & Employee Expenses
- Maintaining the fixed asset register, including additions, disposals and depreciation.
- Processing credit card transactions and expense claims, and supporting inter‑company reconciliations.
Cashflow Forecasting & Accounts Receivable
- Maintaining the rolling cashflow forecast and highlighting variances and timing differences.
- Owning debtor oversight and follow‑up of overdue balances.
Management Reporting, Tax & Compliance Support
- Assisting with monthly management reporting schedules, variance analysis and D365 report extraction.
- Cross‑training in GST, NRWT and FBT, and supporting audit, tax, RDTI and funding requests.
Accounts Payable & Transactional Backup
- Providing backup for supplier invoicing and reconciliations, bank processing and bank reconciliations.
Process Improvement, Documentation & AI Enablement
- Maintaining finance SOPs and checklists, and using approved AI‑enabled tools to work smarter.
- Spotting practical opportunities to improve finance processes, workflows and controls.
Key skills you will bring:
- Practical accounting experience at Assistant Financial Accountant level, including month‑end close, balance sheet reconciliations and journal preparation.
- A relevant accounting or finance degree, or equivalent practical accounting experience.
- Experience with an ERP or comparable finance system; Microsoft Dynamics 365 strongly preferred.
- Sound understanding of double‑entry accounting and routine month‑end processes.
- Strong practical Excel skills; Power BI or Power Query experience is an advantage.
- High attention to detail and a genuine willingness to question discrepancies.
- Confident communicator, comfortable following up directly with colleagues, suppliers and customers.
- Sound judgement, confidentiality and a clear sense of when to elevate.
- Part‑qualified, studying towards, or interested in pursuing CA ANZ, CPA Australia or equivalent is an advantage.
- Experience in manufacturing, inventory, landed cost or a product‑based business is an advantage.
