Job summary

Tommy & Co in New Zealand seeks an accountant with BAS experience to handle financial statements and tax returns (income tax, GST, PAYE, FBT) for a diverse client base. You’ll support clients to stay compliant, answer queries, and assist in advisory work with our senior team.

You’ll maintain accurate timesheets and job costs while working closely with our Practice General Manager. Based in Pukekohe, you’ll join a supportive team offering development opportunities, mentoring, and a clear career

Qualifications

• BAS accounting experience is essential.
• Comfortable across financials and tax.
• Experience with practice software is a bonus; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements and full range of tax returns (income tax, GST, PAYE, FBT).
• Help clients stay compliant with obligations.
• Answer client queries with clear, accurate advice.
• Involve in business advisory work with senior team.
• Keep timesheets and job costs accurate and up to date.
• Collaborate with Practice General Manager for issue resolution.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing financial statements and the full range of tax returns (income tax, GST, PAYE, FBT)
• Helping clients stay compliant and on top of their obligations
• Answering client queries with clear, accurate and up-to-date advice
• Getting involved in business advisory work alongside our senior team
• Keeping timesheets and job costings accurate and up to date
• Working closely with our Practice General Manager, who's there to support you and help you work through issues

What we're looking for

• A good grounding in BAS accounting, and you're comfortable working across financials and tax,
• Some experience with practice software (it's a bonus if you've used Xero, Xero Practice Manager or CCH workpapers, but we'll help you learn)
• Great communication with clients and the team
• Attention to detail and good time management
• Ownership of your work, and you follow things through
• You don't need to tick every box. If you're keen to learn and this sounds like you, we'd still encourage you to apply. However, BAS experience is essential.
