Job summary

DNV Maritime Advisory in Norway invites applications from 3rd and 4th year Master students for a Summer Student position in Structures. You will work on FE analyses for ships and offshore structures, supported by experts involved in rule development and digital twins.

You should be specializing in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, with interest in structural integrity, fatigue and extreme loading.

Qualifications

  • Master's student pursuing a relevant Master program with expected graduation within 1 year.
  • Specialization in Naval Architecture / Marine Engineering or Mechanical/Civil Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • FE analyses for ships and offshore structures (GeniE, Abaqus).
  • Fatigue analyses from full stochastic to prescriptive (FLS).
  • Extreme response analyses including buckling, collision, and extreme loading (ULS/ALS).

What to expect as a Summer Student in the Structures section in Maritime Advisory?

You will be part of a team of 20 talented engineers offering world class advisory services within structures for ships and the offshore industries.

The keyword for our section is FEM, finite element analysis, and we help our customers with the most difficult and non-standard deliveries in the industry - meaning our projects are unique and offer new learnings every time and throughout the career. You will be teamed up with our experts which are behind DNVs rule development, who are leading international committees and have years of experience on software, tools, and simulations.

Typical tasks as a Summer Student in Maritime Structures would be:
  • FE analyses (GeniE, Abaqus)
  • Fatigue analyses from full stochastic to prescriptive (FLS)
  • Extreme response covering buckling, collision, and extreme loading (ULS and ALS)

We are leaders within the technical discipline of structural analyses in the maritime and offshore industry, covering complex assets such as cruise ships, LNG carriers, FPSOs and wind turbine installation vessels (WTIV). In the last years we have been leading the development of digital twins for structural condition monitoring and offering fully digital online services to our customers. We are one of the few workplaces where you directly can use and build on the knowledge from courses taught during your studies.

A summer job in Maritime Advisory at our head office in Høvik (outside Oslo) will consist of a combination of individual tasks and teamwork with other summer students, guided by technical experts.
