Job description

Wood is looking for an experienced Study Lead / SURF Lead to join our team in Norway. We have subsea hub offices in Stavanger and Oslo.

You'll become part of a team of close to 60 engineers in Norway and work closely with colleagues across the region. We support projects within oil and gas and energy transition; from early studies, through FEED, detailed engineering, execution and operations support. The role is based in Norway, and applicants must currently live and work in Norway.

Responsibilities

Your role

In this role, you'll lead and contribute to subsea studies and SURF engineering scopes for a range of clients and projects. Wood is currently supporting technically challenging subsea developments on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, including tiebacks, HPHT projects, deepwater developments, complex brownfield integration, CCS-related scopes, and late-life asset work (decom and lifetime extensions for example).

This is a practical, delivery-focused role. We are looking for someone who can step into studies and projects quickly, understand the interfaces, ask the right questions and help move the work forward from day one. Depending on the assignment, you may act as study lead, SURF lead, technical lead or key discipline contributor.

Your responsibilities will typically include:

• Leading or coordinating early-phase subsea studies, from feasibility and concept selection through pre-FEED and FEED.
• Developing and maturing SURF and subsea field architecture concepts, including layouts, routing, tie-ins, constructability and interface considerations.
• Coordinating multidisciplinary input from subsea systems, pipelines, flexibles, umbilicals, structures, flow assurance, process, materials, integrity, marine operations and technical safety.
• Providing practical SURF engineering input to project and operations teams, including design basis, assumptions, risks, opportunities and decision support.
• Supporting client discussions, workshops and technical reviews, including HAZID, design reviews, risk reviews and concept selection meetings.
• Preparing or coordinating study deliverables such as technical notes, basis of design input, option screening, philosophies, CTRs, schedules, MTOs and cost estimate inputs.
• Supporting bids and proposals by defining scope, estimating effort and identifying the right technical approach.
• Supporting and mentoring junior engineers and helping develop our SURF and study delivery capability in Norway.

Qualifications

Is this you?

You're an experienced, proactive subsea engineer who can take ownership of multidisciplinary studies and SURF scopes. You are comfortable working between engineering detail, project delivery and client decision-making, and know how to bring the right people together to reach a clear recommendation.

You have a strong subsea background and understand how subsea systems, pipelines, flexibles, umbilicals, structures, installation and operations fit together. You are used to working with incomplete information in early-phase studies and helping clients make robust decisions without overcomplicating the work.

You have a relevant engineering degree and solid experience in subsea engineering, SURF delivery or multidisciplinary subsea studies. Experience in field architecture, routing, tie-ins, installation engineering, pre-commissioning, decommissioning, brownfield integration or offshore construction support is highly valued.

We are especially interested in people who combine technical judgement with practical delivery, whether they have already moved into study leadership or are ready to take on broader study lead and future project management responsibilities.

Experience with Norwegian Continental Shelf projects is strongly preferred, and experience using modern digital tools for early-phase engineering, option screening, routing, data handling or efficient study delivery is beneficial.
